About SEO Virgin

So just who is the SEO Virgin? And is this yet another site by another wannabe SEO guru claiming to have the insider track on DIY SEO?

Well the short answers are a) me and b) no, but I guess those answers don’t really suffice for an About page so I shall elaborate.

I, Alana Burton, used to work in the property industry and it was there that I began dabbling in internet marketing for lead generation and brand awareness and learnt about how a website with good SEO could make or break an estate agent. With a determination to find out how a real estate agent with awful customer service feedback could generate a disproportionately high amount of sales commission*, I set about reading up on internet marketing and SEO.

As the property market started to take a swift nose dive, I went for a complete change of industry and came down to Marbella to work for the internet marketing company Artemis Internet Marketing in 2007. Artemis focus mainly on organic search and SEO and it was there that the interest in Search grew and where SEO learning was nurtured.

After beginning with the usual copywriting, link building, press releases and article writing**, I moved on to on-page SEO and learning a bit more about html, dhtml & learning geek speak so I could become a fully fledged signed up member of that 3-4 letter SEO acronym club that permits SEOers to dazzle the unlearned with chat about the merits of SEO against PPC, XML sitemaps and getting you up the SERPs.

These days I focus mostly on freelance opportunities whilst also continuing to collaborate with Artemis on a number of projects and generally enjoy getting lost for hours in CSS & HTML & the satisfaction that comes with restoring a clients’ faith in internet marketing and SEO.

What is an SEO Virgin?

An SEO Virgin is someone who knows enough about SEO to say that they do SEO, but at the same time, if there was ever a dinner party and the guests included Matt Cutts, Lisa Myers, Judith Lewis, Rand Fishkin, Rae Hoffman, Ciaran Norris et al, the SEO Virgin would probably be the one sitting quietly in the corner, nodding every now and then and frantically trying to make mental notes of the bits to read up on and learn in the conversation.

Where am I going with this?

My musings will go hand in hand with SEO skills as they are picked up and are aimed at new businesses or any small businesses with a website who are looking to understand a bit more about how their website can benefit from a bit of Costa del Sol online marketing and be optimised to work as effectively as possible for them.
